iTunes

Looking into distrubution in the media- iTunes is where most audiences download their music and music videos. Looking at the beginnings of itunes to how it has progressed shows me as a creator of the music video where audiences would be downloading the music or and music video from.

iTunes is a media player computer program, used for playing, downloading and organising digital music and downloading video files on desktop computers. It can also manage contents of ipod, iphone, ipod touch and ipad.iTunes can connect to the iTunes store to purchase and download music, music videos, television shows, iPod games, audiobooks, podcasts movies amd movie rentals (not available in all countries), and ringtones (only available on iPhone and iPod touch. iTunes has been criticized for not being able to transfer music from one portable device to another. iTunes was introduced by Apple Inc.. on January 9, 2001. The latest version, which is currently 10.5, is avaliable as a free download for MAC OS X v.10.5 or later, as well as Windows XP  of later. In June 2010, Apple released a new privacy policy pertaining to capture and collections of all users' real-time location information. The information has been included in various device-specific EULAs since 2008, but was not included in Apple's general privacy policy until 2010.

MTV

Beginnings of MTV

In looking at the idea of the Beginnings of MTV it shows how the first distrubution to the public was created and shown. Through looking at the beginning of what the public viewed and the audience now. It shows the different changes in the music industries and how the audience has changed and what they expect.

MTV(Music Television) is an American network based in New York. It launched on August 1,1981. The original purpose of the channel was to play music videos guided by on-air host known as VJs.(Video Jockeys)

Artists began to take the need for promo every realise seriously.- Cable TV taken off in the USA. Can we have round the clock promo? The very first video killed... Duran Duran- Big Budget=$$$$$
The logo and images become icon, Scene- becoming album covers.

Changes in technologies and gap in the cable market. Boom in promos in the early 80s!
On MTV there were no blacks except Michael Jackson.

Soon as the Multi-Channel Music TV hit =
-Growth of genre based channels
-Black music at last broke into the market.
- Other companies set up channels as spin-offs from other products.
e.g. EMAP: Smash hits, Q ect.

Controversy
Themes such as sex, violence, drugs and bad driving came into the music genre.
E.g:  Jay Z- 99 questions- Repeated viewings.

NOW:   Biggest budgets for the black music.
Fragmentations of music channels- 30 channels? Different genre, different target audience.
             E-Map
             50 cent- Element of Controversy
             Screen within a screen, Fantasy.

MTVs major worry was the law suits due to the corruption of the media because of the influences in which came off current music videos.
Still progressing and changing with the times of music.

Music Videos- Inspiration

Ed Sheeran- The A Team.

This song is about a prostitute who gets beaten up, and takes drugs and ends up passing away. But those lines: 'The worst things in life come free to us.' - The violence she's getting is free and it's sort of ironic because she gets paid for being a prostitute. Shows the audience that we have it easy, making comparisons. 'And we're just all under the other hand' - Also a symbol for violence and neglect. The fact that she's among us and how we are supposed to all live the same even though we are all different. She's overpowered by everyone around her. 'Go mad for a couple grams'- This is about drugs, the fact she doesn't have much of a meaning in her life so she will take drugs to make herself feel better.
I like the way it looks more realistic then other music videos and that it tells us a story about the women character. I like the black and white and the way the shots are steady.

Ed Sheeran- You need me, I don't need you.
I like the beginning where there is a fade in, fade out of the artist(Ed Sheeran) I also like the close up shots of all the hands on the guitar and the hands of a character who performs sign language. Even though the scene is somewhat different compared to his first official music video A team the music video as a whole is effective.
